A REFLECTION of 2007

Year number 5......

January & February
The year started out busy! Jeremy’s mom visited Pullman, New years at Joanne’s, last UREC Staff training week, lots of finishing up to do with UREC, lots of classes to teach, lots of planning, and putting together the WELLBEING FAIR on Feb 22! Mom and Jason visited for the Fair. It snowed but was a huge success! The largest fair yet! My last day with UREC was Feb 28th and our first anniversary was Feb 25, 2007!

As a bonus, Steve (Jeremy’s brother-in-law) came to Tri-Cities for work . J&J went down to fish…well the boys fished and Jeanna called Aunt Rose to have tea & lunch at Anthony’s while watching the boys in the rain and cold…….so who do you think got the better deal?

I had a little time to kill waiting for Aunt Rose, so I did a special photo “Tree Piece.” What do you think – the next Ansel Adams? I will keep my day job…oh, wait, no I won’t past February. Hmmmmmm……..

March
Lots of visiting before moving: Jeanna went to see Mary Kate in Boise (what a cutie she has!). I had a lot of fun seeing what all Mary Kate does in a day – wow was I tired! I took so many classes at the Y in addition to the private pilates classes Mary Kate made up for me and even more classes at the studio! We had non-work out fun also – coffee, shopping, dinner at the Melting Pot, dinner at friends and an ALL DAY DANCE JAM (I was in heaven – no, dancing is NOT working out for me).

Jeremy and I went down to Tri-Cities to visit Carla, Asia and Butch. We miss them a lot. It was fun to just hang out without a whole bunch of other people. We will have to do this again (BTW –Carla is getting married in Oct 2008 to Butch! Yeah!). We finished off the month in Detroit looking at homes to live in. I got my heart set on a condo downtown by the water – beautiful! Last - Andrea and Jacob came to Pullman for a Men’s Rowing Alumni Event.

April
More visiting! I went to visit Andrea in Victoria for a week. See the separate blog for this one: "We are Queens! 4.07" – good times and great pictures and that is all I am going to say!

Andrea and I drove from Victoria to our parents for Easter and an awesome going away party! Everyone came over for Easter – Mom made cute place setters and the food was great. Best yet – we had plenty of time to play with Chica the cat. He is so fuzzy and fun to play with. Often we shadow box, or sit and read, or cuddle (this cat is carried around a lot!) or mess with him pretending we are cats! What a character! The going away party was a blast too! A lot of people that we had not seen in a while attended – so we were able to catch up a little before going away – far away!

Andrea came back to visit Pullman one last time and to help with UREC’s Mom’s Tea. It was a success and a lot of fun too! We both really enjoy doing this sort of thing. Mom and daughters would come in, get a foot bath, leg/foot/neck/upper back/arm/hand massage, then have some tea and treats. What pampering while bonding! They even left with a flower and picture! After the event, we met up with Dad (business training) in Spokane for dinner and to drop Andrea off to go home to Seattle. We flew out to Las Vegas the next morning to learn about taxes and corporate structure. (Uneventful - although the service was still lacking - please see "Customer Service! 7.06" blog entry for details on a different Vegas trip last summer).

When we returned Achilles went into the vet and then into surgery to remove tubing in his stomach/intestines. For some strange reason he felt the need to pull down a plastic bag and eat through it in order to get to a bit of surgical tubing. While he was at it, he ate the tubing too! Almost 1.5 feet of the tubing! It is good we love our cat......he is our most expensive kitty!

We finished off the month with a visit to Alicia Jacob and family in Wapato (she has several cuties!). We had a great time chatting, looking around the area, eating great food and playing with her two boys. We also found some time to pack and visit with Pullman friends before leaving!

May
Achilles came home from hospital on the 3rd and we drove to Detroit with stops in Montana, Wisconsin, Roseville, MI and finally into our Warren, MI La Quinta Hotel room. The drive was fun and essentially uneventful. We started at Ben’s at 3am in the morning –packed and ready to go. We took a moment to take a picture. The picture that inspired this whole driving adventure was one of Jeremy's mom many years ago....we attempted to model after.

On the road we went in our 27Ft U-Haul that was packed to the BRIM! Really we barely fit the cleaning supplies in the back. We towed the Ranchero behind the U-Haul and had it stuffed full too (cab). The kitties were not so sure. They knew something was up because we moved into Ben’s. Then getting up and putting them in the cab of the truck. Still not so sure. Then we started to move – oh my! Junior was on my lap meowing to let me know something was happening (Thanks, Junior). Freya had enough and went under the bench seat (I had put blankets, toys and other fun things in every nook and cranny for the kitties – this was good). Achilles was confused and kept looking out the window; eventually deciding the dash was a good spot to lay down (He always did like to ride in cars!). Athena just howled. And yelped, and meowed, and just let us know that this was not up to her standard of living. She climbed up our shoulders, on the dash, down to the floor, behind the seat, over the seat, to the window, and let us know everything she was thinking. Thank goodness that lasted only 2 hours or we might have had a cute fur muff for my hands (just kidding). Eventually everyone settled down into a pattern of getting comfy, playing, and rotating spots so everyone got window time, petting time, lap time, sleeping time, etc. Funny enough- Athena was the best in the end. She slept between Jeremy and I. I couldn’t find her after one stop and though she got out – no she was sleeping under the map book.

The drive was beautiful. You could not ask for more beautiful days (even in the bits of rain). Idaho was breathtaking – and with our load we went very slowly up the mountains so we got good looks (at the mountains!). Wisconsin is our favorite with the variety of trees and vegetation. Overall – when we pulled into the Warren Hotel – we were ready to be done but glad we did it. I suggest a cross country drive to everyone at least once every 5 years – but maybe not with 4 cats.

June
We are still in the hotel but having quite a bit of fun. There is free internet and the staff has become like family. Really, they all know us by name. The cleaning ladies do not like cats, so I clean the room everyday – I take them what I need, and they let me get what I want. We can wash clothes, use the refrigerator and everything. You could not ask for a nicer staff to live with! After the ladies leave for the day, the cats could roam the halls to stretch their legs. We got a lot of petting and playing in! We did get out a bit to work in the park downtown or see the market that was really in our backyard. Here are a few pictures!

We visited Seattle for the annual paintball/spa weekend we talked about last year. Ok - a lot of you expressed interest in going and did not materialize. Let's step up to the plate for 2008! Paintball requires a separate blog entry. Please check it out at: "Paintball Fun 6.07" While there we also celebrated Mom Kiehle's Birthday. We went to the Glass Museum in Tacoma and then out to dinner. The museum was a lot of fun! We watched vases being made and were able to see a lot of really interesting pieces. I suggest a visit the next time you are in town.

July
Mom Kiehle and I took a trip to Vancouver to pick up Andrea; who was just in from Africa. Andrea has a ton of really cool pictures and stories to share. I will try to get her to type something up to put on the blog. The experience really shaped and had an impact on her and other events of the year (little preview here – of a project that I will be working on this year, hopefully to launch next year!). I will post some of the pictures in a separate entry: “Andrea’s Africa 6.07

The girls stayed in Victoria for a week or so and had a blast running around. We went to several street markets and craft fairs, drove all over the coast, ate lunch at a “beautiful waterfall”, had drinks with our movies, went out on the town, saw a safari, expired passports and – ok this is too good – I guess I need to do a separate blog to tell the story. Please see blog “Girls in Victoria: 7.07. I will put one picture to tempt you.

Then mom, Andrea and I were out to Neah Bay. We girls were having a blast! (Dad Kiehle could not come due to a fire that had to be fought. That’s ok – he retires in October, so he will come next year!) We met up with Aunt Rose & Uncle John and had a great week of relaxing, playing on the beach, and taking hot showers. Ok – well there are a few stories and a few pictures!……maybe this needs a blog entry too! Please see “NB:Rain & Shine 7.07 ”. We finished the month off with a Harry Potter movie Marathon before I returned to Detroit.

August
We went to Tom’s Oyster Bar for my Birthday; tried out the YMCA and the Rotary. At the end of the month we were back in Spokane for Eric and Adrianne's Wedding! Sara and I started the day kayaking around the lake her parents live on. So peaceful and relaxing you hardly realize you are doing work until you try to life your arms to dance at a wedding…… What a beautiful wedding! There was a ton of food, drinks around, art projects, dancing, more dancing, fish in bowls, and more! Adrianne was stunning! The day was beautiful too! If anyone has pictures – please send them! We managed to come up with one picture off our phone of Jason running the camera!

September
After the wedding we went to Tacoma and then Jeanna went to Palm Springs with Andrea and Mary Kate for Inner IDEA. This was a blast! Please see the blog entry: “Our INNER Idea 9.07” for this trip – not quite as nichey as last year but still a good story!

We returned to Detroit on the 17th and moved into our new house on the 19th! (The condo fell through.....shadey people, so really it is a good thing (or a God thing). There is a whole story here - but it is not nice, so I will not post it.) It took until October to clean, clean, clean and unpack! Another exciting Sept event - our most successful Discover Detroit pupil Scott completes his course! We went to the Coach Insignia Lounge for Jeremy's birthday. What a view! See.... you must come visit so you can see the view - no picture for you....

October
Tax Auction preparation and execution! My goodness this took a lot of time! We also had Holly and Jared for dinner and carve pumpkins – first people in our house! Achilles also fell off the roof and hurt his back. The following week Athena fell off. Kitties lost all their roof privileges.

Jeanna also worked with Andrea on promoting AIDS awareness and caregiver kits for those in Africa. The event is over now, but the need is still there – check out the event we participated in: www.jb-realestate-solutions.com/world%20vision.html. Andrea and I both feel very drawn to this type of work. We have not figured out how to incorporate it more into our lives (well Andrea has dedicated her Masters research to AIDS in Africa……so I guess she has for the immediate moment – BTW – she graduates May 2008! Yeah!)

November
Jason came to visit for a little over two weeks! What fun – the first one to visit and stay in our house. He was a lot of fun to have around and introduce to everyone. We even had a housewarming party on the 10th so he could meet everyone. He lived and went home safe – see Detroit is not so bad! What is YOUR excuse for not coming to visit?

Two is better than one! Fred visited while Jason was here and we even found him a place to stay in the house. Thanksgiving was quiet with just us, a small turkey, egg nog and movies! The kitties got turkey! Yummy! Jeremy took me day-after shopping! Good man.

December
Dad Kiehle Visits Detroit (the sink still does not leak, the lights still work and Junior still can not get in the cabinets! Yeah!) We had a great time exploring Home Depot – everyday. I know where EVERYTHING is now. Dad took a lot of time to show me how to do repairs around the house. I even got my own set of tools and supplies as part of my Christmas gift! Yeah! A few of the projects we did: Prep the stairs for painting, change the kitchen sink faucet, change two light fixtures (yeah – light in the scary basement bathroom), fixed the basement lights in general (no more washing clothes in the dark!), tried to fix the lights in the yard and side door (the yard light suddenly decided to work after the big snow – go figure), and a bunch more! We were busy but had a good time! We were so busy – we did not take one picture! – so here is a fun one of Dad anyway:

We had our first real snow of over a foot days after dad left. The kitties were divided on how they felt. First, the snow started on Sunday night at 5pm or so. At 7pm, the master fuse blew in the basement. So we were a bit chilly through the night and really cold in the morning. Jeremy was a good man and shoveled out the driveway and the neighbor’s driveway and the sidewalk in between (2 hours)! Then we went to the hardware store for a fuse (and an extra fuse) and salt. They salt the roads here – we had our chains on and were doing fine on the road. Everyone else was slipping, sliding, getting stuck, etc. We could not figure out why NO ONE had chains – silly people. Chains are illegal here as well as studded tires (silly Jeanna & Jeremy). The nice man at the store told us. So we took them off – after we got home! Really – the only roads that are slick are the residential roads. The city does a great job of getting everything off the common roads - as long as it is not Sunday.

Christmas was peaceful and relaxing at home. Jeremy got up at 5am to make me homemade cinnamon rolls (served in bed!). We opened gifts – the kitties got the neatest toys from Aunt Andrea and Grandma Kiehle! I got a beautiful set of pearls from the Burgesses (and my tools/labor from the Kiehles!) and Jeremy really loved his slippers and coffee! We went to “Alien vs Predator R” in the afternoon – GREAT movie no matter what the critics say. It is not supposed to have a plot of human character development. It is based off a comic book! The character development that happens is subtle, over several movies – it is with the Predators! How they act, make decisions, their culture, etc. That (along with the cool action and breaking of every horror movie rule) is what brings people back. We are connected to figuring out more of how the Predators live. This maybe is too deep for the critics or maybe I dug too deep. I like the Predators…….

New Years Eve (tonight) we are meeting up with Jared and Holli to have a movie and popcorn night. It is supposed to snow another foot tonight and a bit more tomorrow – so we are just going to let the drunk party goers have the snowy road without their chains – they can slide and dance together. We will be warm and toasty!

Ok – That is it for this year folks. Really – Next year MUST be more peaceful and boring (most likely not). But at least my reflections will be shorter since I will have individual blog spots for most events. Yeah! As the kitties say:

Meowing it as it is in the “D”! Peace!

Andrea’s Africa 6.07

June of 2007, Andrea went to Africa.

Andrea had an eye opening adventure traveling around Northern Kenya making friends, drinking goat's milk, experiencing "black tongue", rushing through the market and even doing a bit of research for her masters (thesis).

Andrea visited several locations on her trip, the main attraction being the village of Karare. I was hoping for a few stories, but the slide show below will have to do for now! Enjoy!

I got to see all the pictures and created a slideshow of some of my favorites from her trip. No captions here though...

A REFLECTION of 2006

Year number four….. & counting…..

This is the big year where our lives changed quite a bit! We really lost complete track of dates, times and relativity so we focused on events:

Our Wedding: February, 25th, 2006
For more information, details & pictures - please see the specific blog entry titled: “Our Wedding: 2.06

We planned and prepped and here it is – the big event! It was a whole weekend of fun.

  • Thursday: preparing flowers, locations and more while caching up with everyone.
  • Friday: Bonding thorough cigars, spas, rehearsals, and restaurant trials.
  • Saturday: Getting ready, pictures, food, ceremony, reception and dancing!
  • Sunday: Brunch, rest, talking and good-byes.

As soon as we made it back to Pullman, I left again for CA to attend a mind/body conference (to finish up my yoga alliance certification) with the girls from work. A week later, Jeremy joined me in San Diego for our honeymoon. What fun! We saw the city inside and out! We both love SD. As soon as we got back to Pullman, Jeremy was off to Coos Bay for family issues. A week later, we met up in Spokane again to assist Jason and Sara with their wedding invitation assembly. Wow – one week on, one week off, one on, one off. At this rate we will always be glad to see each other?

Sara and Jason’s Wedding: July 3, 2006
For more information, details & pictures - please see the specific blog entry titled: “Sara & Jason Wed: 7.06

A year for weddings! This event is the second more import event to happen this year. Sara and Jason have been long time friends and we are so happy to be part of their event. We had a beautiful spring bridal shower for Sara in Spokane – full of happy memories, great food (and happy cake), meaningful gifts, memorable company, fun games and more!

Jeremy, on the other hand, had to out-do the “best bachelor party ever” that Jason threw for him in February. He managed by giving Jason just what he wanted the last weekend of June: all meat BBQ on Friday night, Bootcamp training Sat morning before 4 hours of paintball battles, go-cart racing, dinner at El Gauchos, ice cream at Cold Stone and home for poker games! The boys had such a great time, they are making the paintball weekend an annual event.

So mark your calendars for June 23, 2007 (and similar June weekends for years to come). Anyone and EVERYONE is invited but PLEASE LET US KNOW YOU ARE INTERESTED SO WE CAN RESERVE YOU A SPOT & GET YOU THE INFORMATION! The ladies are even welcome. For those not interested in Paintball fun, there will the spa choice too.

The week between the bachelor party and the wedding, we stayed around to visit family and help with last minute wedding preparations. Sara and I had a lot of fun putting together party favors, memory cards and display board, getting our dresses altered, and more!

Jason married the love of his life, Sara, at a beautiful outdoor wedding on the Washington Peninsula July 3rd. Gorgeous! We were in the bridal party – so we all looked pretty good! Sara was the most beautiful bride! The wedding planner was awesome and made it possible for us to mingle, dance and talk to folks we had not seen in a while.

Customer Service Please! IDEA in Las Vegas, July 2006
For more information, details & pictures - please see the specific blog entry titled: “Customer Service! 7.06

Really – I am not going to put much here because there really is no way appreciate without the whole story. It is rather funny…beyond funny. All I can say is WOW, maybe my standards are too high. No – they aren’t. Please read the blog for Andrea, Mary Kate and my adventures in Las Vegas for the IDEA conferences.

Jeanna’s Birthday Surprise
In August, Andrea planned a surprise birthday party BBQ for Jeanna. It was a total success! We started the day off at the river; swimming, sunning, and snacking. After we got back in town, Jeremy went down to start the BBQ at Reany Park while the girls got changed. Jeanna had no idea that other people were going to be there. They walked down the hill in deep conversations and Jeanna was completely surprised when she walked into her own party area! What fun! We currently can not find the pictures – although we know they exist. SO we will post them when we find them! If anyone has some, please send them!

More Traveling
We did a bunch of traveling for Jeremy’s switch in Careers. He left Safeway and started JB Real Estate Solutions. He is now a professional Real Estate Investor. We went to training in September in Seattle, two in Oct (Phoenix and Dallas) and one in Detroit in Dec. Lots of info, lots of miles. We have decided to move to Detroit though! That is the best market and the coolest city! We will move in the spring of next year. Lots of changes!

Hunting
Jeremy did manage to find a little time for hunting in November – look what he got! The pictures say it all……. Yes Joanne – only two deer now in your backyard!

Thanksgiving
We went to Aunt Roses for Thanksgiving. Everyone was there! The twins were the hit though. Do check out the pictures – they are so cute! We enjoyed talking, eating, relaxing, shopping, watching Casino Royal (great movie!) and in general enjoying being around each other. I will miss this when we move.

Christmas
Andrea came over early in the month to help me sort through clothes and possessions in the effort of pairing down our stuff for the move. Yeah! Then she and Jacob returned on Christmas eve for dinner with the Linses. Yummy! Jeremy ate too much meat for his system and did not feel so good later. It is funny how lifestyle changes will affect you. Christmas morning we opened presents with Andrea and Jacob and had a good time hanging out. The cats were very happy to see her- they love her attention, pets, treats and TOYS! After Christmas dinner, we went and saw the new Rocky. The girls weren’t to sure but the guys liked it. Just something about Rocky you’ve got to love!

A New Year Begins
Mom Burgess finished out 2006 and helped us welcome in 2007 with a week long visit. Dad Burgess is still in the Middle East so she spent Christmas with Jessica (Jeremy’s sister) and then came out to see us for the new year. Yeah! Joanne’s was hoping with a fondu party. I am going to miss the UREC gang.

I think that is it! I will let you know when I update the pictures since they are not all here......

If I forgot something from this year – let me know and I will add it in…… the Christmas letter is not much help – we were too scattered to write date by date….we only hit the big things and it was still a novel! You can read it here. (link coming soon)

Sara & Jason Wed: 7.06

SARA & JASON TIE THE KNOT, JULY 3, 2006
Life settled down for a little bit anyway after we traveled to Spokane to help make invitations in March. Then came Sara & Jason’s wedding! We had a bridal shower in Spokane for Sara (another cake from Happy Cakes!) It was a beautiful spring afternoon of great food, company, gifts, games and more! Jeremy had the task of outdoing the “best bachelor party ever” that Jason threw for him in February – so what did he do? Gave Jason just what he wanted the last weekend of June: all meat BBQ on Friday night, Bootcamp training Sat morning before 4 hours of paintball battles. Food, food, and more food! Then go-cart racing, dinner at El Gauchos, ice cream at Cold Stone and home for poker games! The boys had such a great time, they are making the paintball weekend an annual event.

So mark your calendars for June 23, 2007 (and similar June weekends for years to come). Anyone and EVERYONE is invited. The girls are even welcome. For those not interested in Paintball fun, there will the spa choice too.

Jason married the love of his life, Sara, at a beautiful outdoor wedding on the Washington Peninsula July 3rd. You couldn’t have asked for a nicer day. It was gorgeous! We had more fun at their wedding than ours although we are still waiting to attend a wedding were we are just a burden and have no responsibilities. For the wedding – Jason was our best man and Jeremy was Jason’s best man – no questions! Sara was Jeanna’s bridesmaid and Jeanna was Sara’s. The wedding planner was awesome and that made our jobs a lot easier. The food was awesome and it was nice to see quite a few people we had not seen in a while. We did not make it to the fireworks that night – too tired after staying up all night setting up Jason and Sara’s wedding night nest with candles, towels,
flower petals and goodies. But we have pictures!

Customer Service! 7.06

CUSTOMER SERVICE PLEASE: JULY, 2006
Well – this is more of a ranting…..I love IDEA as an organization. The conferences they put on are top quality, informative and well worth every penny spent between knowledge, new ideas, relationships and networking. I highly recommend you attend one if you can (Health and fitness related). 2006 was the first year of Inner IDEA – specific conference geared toward Mind/Body topics. Wonderful! Could not have asked for more from a first year! After 4 days of inner reflection, I moved onto the IDEA World Convention.

Issues right from the start. The hotel checked me into a room that was already occupied. And they tried to tell me I needed to go through their stuff to see if I knew them. WHAT!!! No – I want a new room – you figure out who they are – that is YOUR job! So we got a new room and the front desk staff ASSURED me my credit card information was transferred to the new room and taken off the old room (what had happened is they checked in the other people into my room and then checked me into their room). Mary Kate and another from her studio met me at the hotel and we got oriented for the week. I should have know something was up when everytime I picked up the phone they called me by the wrong name. Every morning I went down and asked – “oh, no, you are all settled and everything is arranged.” Andrea met me there the last few days. “Oh – everything is fine”. The conference was awesome! World is more general fitness related. Fun trade show, great sessions, wow! Near the end of the conference (they were sold out and we had to move to a near by hotel for the last two nights), we go to check out. WOW – I am charged for two rooms automatically! I politely remind them that everything was in order! So they refund my credit card and we try again. And again. And again. I have never taken over an hour to check out before with 3 associates working on it. Eventually we had to delete everything and put it all back in. Blah. This is their job – They do it everyday – I am not sure how this could happen.

So we pack all our stuff across the convention center to the other hotel and check in. This is also a BIG name hotel. “No problem – we are happy you came – thank you for choosing us”. We take our stuff up to the room (I have stayed here before and really had a great time), open the door and THE SMELL! Not clean (well the bed is made) and when the toilet flushed, POOP can up the sink! That is where the smell came from. So down to the desk we went.

Mind you – Mary Kate is large now – due to deliver in like a month. The elevator arrives, in she goes and we almost had a large accident. Someone had dumped all the black crystals that fill the cigarette trays all over the black marble floor of the elevator. You can not see it until you loose your footing! We caught her inches away from the floor. I thought this was a quality hotel……
Now we are at the desk. First they asked if we had turned the sink on to wash it away. That should solve everything. NO! I do not think so. Then they actually wanted us to stay in the room and they would send a maid up. POOP came up the sink when the toilet flushed (with no poop in it). The smell in the whole room is enough to make one sick. No maid is going to fix this in one cleaning. I showed her the pictures we took on my camera. “Ok – well let’s get you another room. Here you go – please be sure all your belongings are out of the original room within the next 10 minutes or the key will not work.” WHAT – the bell man - Let me get this straight – you put me in a room that is in a biohazard state, you try to make me stay there and solve the issue myself, then try to get me to stay there and have a maid cover it up until the next time I flush. Then you agree to move me but I have to move all my own stuff on your time schedule. We are already late to our session so we just go to move the stuff. We also mentioned the crystals in the elevator – not to get anything free, just to have it picked up. No thank you we will get on it, no questions to see if we were alright, nothing. Cares for their customers, my ASS. Big name, little service.

Up to the room we went, got the bags, moved the bags, got unpacked a little, noticed that the fridge was missing, called on the fridge and went down again. Ok – it has been 45 minutes. The crystals are still in the elevator. Actually – when Andrea and I went up 4 hours later – they were still there. And there was still no fridge. They wanted me to pay for a replacement since I must have taken the first one???? Whatever – we had two sinks and lots of ice on them. We MacGyver-ed a fridge. We are problem solvers. This company must think highly of itself and its liability protection to be putting people in contaminated rooms and ignoring serious accident situations. Wow – this would never fly at UREC.

Well – we had a mission – to get a dessert and have a drink before bed. I had eaten in the restaurant before – great desserts and drinks – so we went there. “Can not serve you, you must order at least one entry per two people – we are a restaurant” WHAT? I did not order dinner before. Oh, well. The little bar just outside is good. So we went to the little bar – cute, jazz music, comfy chairs to talk and relax. We order a drink each. Mary Kate wanted virgin margarita - no blender (no they can not use the one in the restaurant a few feet away) – ok, a Shirley Temple – no soda (or something as equally absurd for a bar). In the end there was nothing but tap water for Mary Kate. Then we went to order a dessert to share. No food service here – have to go to the restaurant that is 5 feet away. It seems like we have tried this route. Is there ANYWHERE to get desserts and a drink. Desserts are offered at the Café but no drinks. So I went the café to buy a dessert to bring back. “NO, you can not take the dessert out of the café – it must be eaten here. Well, can I have one of the ones in the “to-go” display? Yes – there is a $5.00 extra-charge for the “to-go” package. The dessert already costs like $8 for next to nothing I was not going to pay more! But Mary Kate wants dessert and now I do too. I ask if I can take it to the little bar to eat. “Oh, yes – that is why we have “to-go” selections – they don’t serve food in there.” I get the desert back to the bar – I do not even get in – “You can not bring that in here. We have no food in here.” It is a bar, I bought it at your hotel. Doesn’t matter. So back to the café – I want a refund and I want it now – for the whole amount. I must have had a look – after the first refusal, she did not question me after. Customer Service Please – or at least signage and appropriate information for all staff to pass onto customers. It is NOT strange to want a dessert with a drink. Now we just don’t want anything!

Well – Andrea and I went to go see “O” the last night. I pre-bought the tickets and we were going to pick them up at will-call. We arrive 4 hours early to get them and look around. No tickets. I have a receipt – doesn’t matter, my tickets were for a week before. WHAT??? No, they are for tonight. “Well – we resold them since you did not pick them up – you are out of luck.” How would I have picked them up last week when I was not in town for a show to be seen tonight? “Well – the tickets were for last week’s show.” No, my confirmation shows tonight –someone messed up on your end. Well, sorry – not our problem, we hire out the phone ticket ordering service. That is out of our hands.” No I think you do not understand. I paid for tickets for VERY good seats for tonight’s show and I am here to pick them up. I have confirmation. It is your problem. That company represents you and your company. It is not MY problem that there is a mistake. It is YOUR responsibility to fix it. “We are sold out – there is nothing I can do.” I want a full refund, including the taxes and extra charges. “We can not do that – we had to pay the other company for their services and we can only refund ticket prices for tickets we can resell.” Well – you did resell them, so that is fine, and you need to deal with the other company for their mess up. “I am sorry we can not do that. Next.” As I am soothing Andrea – the lady sells tickets for tonight’s show – sold out my ass. “Next” It’s me again. I am not going away until I have tickets in the best row of the house for tonight’s show. It may be prudent to get me your manager since you seem not to be able to do anything for me. “She is at lunch.” Well – we will sit here and talk to you until she comes back. [Andrea has to leave and pace to return her face color, breathing and heart rate to normal]. A phone call later – “she is actually out sick and will not be returning tonight.” Well – then I guess I need her boss, or the hotel boss – there is someone higher than you on shift tonight – I can guarantee it. I will wait. “Next” No I am sorry – I am still here, this rep is not ready to work with you- but that station is open. After three of these, the manager suddenly appears – guess she is not so sick. We go through the entire circle again – I should have taped the first round so she could have been up to speed. In the end we came to an agreement I am going to have tickets in the best row of the house for tonight’s show. I need them now. I have wasted over an hour on an issue that should have been cleared up by you in an matter of minutes. I am going to take my sister to the Ansel Adams show (on you). We will be gone about an hour and when I get back, I will come right here to see you (no I will not wait in line – I will come right to the counter) and pick up my tickets. If you can not make this happen, please have the hotel manager come immediately since you seem not to have the authority to do anything for me.

Andrea and I had a great time at the Ansel Adams show and the tickets were the best in the house. They did try to get me to pay for the upgrade. Whatever – that pays for my wasted time. The only issue we had then was that we had nothing to eat. After the WONDERFUL show (they were great seats) – we thought, no problem, it is LV, open 24/7. We will get food. We went through Paris – nothing is open, through NY,NY, nothing is open, and through about 4 more – nothing is open. What the Bleep! It is like 10pm. The night is young – Please show me the customer service in this town! Well back to hotel to pack. We did stop by the café (were I got the dessert and returned it). The lady seated us – but you could tell she did not want to. When we ordered, we were a bit over with our do not worry we will not return it – if it’s good. It was good.

The day to go home. We get the airport. We are early. As we always do when we travel in different directions, we end reminiscing over a glass of wine and then part for our flights. We enter a Mexican restaurant in the SW wing. We sit down at a table right next to another lady. The waitress comes up to us and says they are not serving on the “patio” anymore. Ok- we will go inside. She says it is full. Ok, we are only having a glass of wine each, we will be done before the lady next to us is done with her meal. No –patio is closed, the kitchen is not dong anymore orders to the patio. Ok, we will go get coffee. As we pack to leave, the waitress came and took the lady’s food order. Breath Andrea – not everyone has their customer service skills up to our level. We go to the coffee shop. Coffee machine is broken. Can’t serve anything – not even smoothies. Where have all the good customer service intentions gone? Ok – can we have a glass of water each please. It is a good thing that I do not throw things away and that the liquid rule was not yet in effect. We pitched the water, kept the cups and I came to the rescue. WE WERE GOING TO HAVE OUR WINE AND REMINISCING BEFROE GETTING ON THE PLANE! I put all the wine we could not drink the night before into a water bottle and put it in my bag to drink at home. Well – out it came, into the glasses it went and we drank! Hilarious if anyone actually knew what was going on – two girls that look like a train wreck hit them, drinking strange liquid out of clear coffee cups, laughing uncontrollably, while sitting on the floor on their yoga mats. Oh, good times, good times………

Our Wedding: 2.06

OUR WEDDING: FEBRUARY 25, 2006
This most certainly the event of the year! We planned for two years, prepped hard for 6 months, gathered for 5 days and finished in 4 hours. Wow! You will have to read the reflection letter of 2006 for more details, I did not want to repeat everything said there……I do want to thank everyone that assisted us with the process because I am still thinking of it all; the beautiful flowers and centerpieces by Mom Kiehle and Andrea, the wonderful party favors and memories made by Cheryl, Chris, Mom, Andrea, Dad, Jeremy and Aunt Toni (who also provided all the supplies and knowledge!), dress shopping in several parts with Sara, Mary Kate, Andrea, and Mom, tux shopping with Ben and Jeremy (several trips!), cake shopping, picture arrangements, food tasting, location approving, meetings with the pastor all with Jeremy, invitations making with Sara and Andrea, and more!

In addition to the bridal shower Mom Kiehle and Andrea put on last summer, Jason put on a killer weekend long bachelor party for Jeremy with activities including: Go Cart Racing, Great food (lots of it!), shooting at the gun range, cigar lounges (with smoking cigars) and poker games! The UREC ladies put on a fabulous bridal shower and more for Jeanna. Sara and Andrea were able to make it over for the festivities! We started at Tena’s house with formal, girly sweets & salties to eat and gifts. Then it was off to Spokane for shopping and dancing!

Then the big weekend arrived! We went up to Spokane to check into the Davenport and do last minute arrangements on Thuraday. The parents also arrived and the Kiehles started on flowers while the Burgesses caught up in events.

Friday was designed to be a fun bonding day. The ladies (Mom Kiehle, Mom Burgess, Andrea, Sara and Jeanna) started early & headed to the Coeur d’Alene Resort Spa for a half day of pampering: manicures, pedicures, massages, wet spa, food and treats! Meanwhile, the guys (Dad Burgess, Jason, Steve, and me) were de-stressing with cigars and conversation. The girls finished with the afternoon with dress pick up, cake pick up, and last minute arrangements for the rehearsal dinner. That evening, the rehearsal went off great but the dinner after was a little bumpy….just a prelude to the “customer service please” that Jeanna and Andrea would experience in July. The restaurant, The Steam Plant Grill, just did NOT have it together. Too bad, the food is usually really good. Dad Burgess saved the evening with his fantastic speech and we vowed never to go to Steam Plant again (especially after they had the audacity to say we lied about our evening experience and that from their point of view everything went beautifully).

Saturday morning came and the ladies were busy again getting all dolled up with make up and hair. Then pictures. Then a food spread put on by Mom Kiehle and Aunt Rose. Then it was time. The music started (Aunt Janet on the hammer dulcimer and Family friend Bob on the piano). Down the isle I went with Dad Kiehle. The ceremony was short and meaningful, Cousin Rachel sang beautifully and then we were signing our certificates. Yeah! Next was the reception. Another salty and sweet occasion – the hits: the punch, the chocolate fountain and fresh fruit/cheese plates. I did not have hardly any food – I was too busy talking to everyone! We closed down the joint dancing but that was still not enough for a wiggler like me! Overall – a very successful evening – I just wish we had more time! Thank you everyone that helped to make this happen – we could not have done it without you!

The next morning, we finished up with the huge buffet brunch at the Davenport. Wow – a bit pricey but so worth every penny! I have never seen so many things so well prepared. Huge seafood assortment, large meat and savories, specially prepared omelets, crepes and waffles, beverages galore, and a sweets table to die for! Yeah!

TRAVELING SO MUCH SO SOON!
We no sooner got back to Pullman and I was off again – this time with the girls from work to CA for a mind/body conference. (Final steps to complete my Yoga Alliance Certification). A week later, I went down to San Diego via greyhound (not the experience I was thinking since I had only ridden greyhound type busses in Brazil – there are NO marble bus stops in LA) to meet up with Jeremy for our honeymoon. We had a fantastic time looking at museums (yes-all of them in Balboa Park in 2 days), the zoo, the waterfront, the island, and more. We met a lot of really nice people and even found a new favorite cigar/wine/coffee shop. At the end of the week, off to home we went and then Jeremy left me for a week to go to Coos Bay for family reasons. My goodness – The first month married and we spent like 14 days together. We did meet up again though – in SPOKANE. Yes – we were on the move again. This time- meeting to help Sara and Jason make their wedding invitations. We went to Sara’s aunt’s house and just had a great party of a time with glue, ribbon, food, drink, paper and more! What fun!

Reflection of 2004

March: Relaxed for Spring Break in Boise with Ben. We hit the thrift stores, explored the town and visited the Birds of Prey Reserve by day and visited with Kurt and Ann Marie (Burgess family friends from when they lived there in the 80s). When we returned to Pullman, Junior picked us at the Humane Society. He is so cute! He picked me out actually – stuck his paw right out of the cage and hooked my hair. He would not let go! Jeremy also went fishing quite a bit – once with Sara!

April: Jeanna was hired as coordinator for UREC Kids Camp and ran the first UREC spring dance recital. We had Easter twice in Pullman; once Andrea and Mom & Dad Kiehle and once a bit after the fact with Beau & Raechel.

Oct: Attended another conference in Chicago with Mary Kate. Jeremy, Ben and Jason also accompanied me to the west side to load a u-haul and close out my storage unit so I could have all my possessions on the same side of the mountains. Yeah! We drove the U-haul back into Pullman with just enough time to catch the football game on screen at Zepos. We hosted a baby shower for Alicia Jacob too. We had so much fun! We had great food, great company and great games – Jeremy was a great sport to help out with the food and even participate in the games when needed. Poor man was the only man there. (check out the pictures!), Nathan’s wedding

Nov: Thanksgiving at Kiehle’s, managed to get all x-mas gifts wrapped, mailed, delivered. Yeah!!

Dec: Christmas at home, alone and quiet.
